This week in class we discussed women in comedy and how women dress and act without the media around them. When watching the video today called Why We Laugh: Funny Women, I thought it was very interesting to watch. It was interesting to watch because men think that women are not funny. They think that only men can make funny jokes and be comedians but women can not. The funny thing about it all is that women do not say mean comments like this to men. We just go on with our lives and we do not have the time to criticize men yet they think it is ok to make fun of us. Yes, there are many comedians who are men out in this world for example, Kevin Hart, Adam Sandler, and Will Ferrell. They will always be well known comedians but they know that they are good. They may think that they are to good and take the media for granted and act funny but they may not be themselves. They dress differently to impress the media. For example, Kevin Hart wears suits but Adam Sandler will wear a baseball T-shirt and a base ball cap. These are two great comedians but they dress differently because they have two different personalities. Men comedies may make fun of women comedians because they are afraid that they will take over their positions and be taken over and be paid more attention to by the media. Women comedians need to support each other because there are not a lot of women comedians out there in the world. Women hear a lot of bad things that are about them. Men make fun of us because they think we should do women things like clean the house, take care of the kids, do laundry. No that is not how society works, men and women are equal and we deserve to do the same exact things as men do.
Another thing we talked about this week in class was how women dress and act when they are not in front of the media. For example, when I was little, I grew up in a neighborhood with all boys my age and absolutely no girls. I also had a brother who is 5 years older than me so he would hang out with all his friends and I guess you could say I was considered a tom boy because I always hung out with my friends who were boys. I loved playing sports with them and playing video games. Obviously I am over that phase now because I had friends who are girls and it is completely different from having guy friends because you can't go shopping with men or gossip to them. I had a group of friends in high school but it is different than college because I just met these great people who I now consider my best friends and I feel like I can talk to them about anything. So it is important having friends who are girls because you feel more comfortable around them and you are able to hangout and tell them secrets and those are things that you can't do with men. Society works in a weird way, but in a way men and women I could say I guess get along better than the way that we used to.
