Entry 7
This week in class while talking about important women in our media today and their influence on the world I felt the topics discussed were very relatable to situations girls and women are dealing with today.  Today in class Group One discussed Rihanna and her influence on women throughout her personal life and through the media.
Rihanna is a well-known face in the media who has dealt with domestic violence in her family life and her dating life.  After Rihanna's decision to leave Chris Brown after getting back together with him after their domestic violence incident she talked in an interview about why she decided to leave him.  Rihanna said that she decided to leave Chris Brown because although he may not hurt her again that other women in the world that look up to her may go back to an abusive partner and end up seriously hurt.  I thought that this was a powerful statement made by Rihanna because a lot of women in the world choose to stay with their abusive partners rather than walk away when they have the chance and try to be in a healthy relationship.

After discussing this topic in class it was clearer to me that women are constantly being looked down upon no matter what decisions they decide to make in their personal lives.  Men are thought to love when they are overly obsessive with women but if women are overly obsessive with men they are constantly called the “psycho girlfriend”.  This class allowed me to realize all the double standards that women face in today’s society.

  1. I never really thought about how wring double standards were until talking about it today. Now I see how ridiculous it sounds when men are seen as sweet and girls psycho.

  2. I never really thought of Rihanna as a feminist or someone who stands for women's rights until today's class. I agree with you that she is a powerful figure and although it took her a little bit to stand up for what she believes in, she did it and now is looked at totally different in today's society.

  3. I agree with you, I also discussed how Rihanna is a role model and when she broke up with Chris Brown it showed other girls that they dont have to stay in abusive relationships.

  4. I agree with you about everything you said. I agree with you that Rihanna is a powerful person and that we are being looked down upon with the decisions that we make. We are looked at differently and it is not right.
