Music Videos and the Female Gaze
This week in our class discussion we discussed the female gaze.  While looking up music videos in search for a female gaze I constantly found videos portraying the male gaze instead.  Seeing how many videos were geared toward the male gaze instead of the female gaze was very surprising to me especially when the song should have portrayed the female gaze.

The music video I chose was As If by Sara Evans, which I found entertaining.  The video showed Sara Evans and other women observing men the way that they observe women on an everyday basis.  Sara Evans picks out the “perfect man” and the man has a perfect body, perfect hair, and is “domesticated”.  I liked the way that the roles were reversed in this music video because women are always shown vacuuming, cooking, etcetera and finally a man was shown doing chores and being paraded around instead of a woman.  After showing the role reversal of the man and the woman and reading the comments on the video it was interesting to see how angry men were but if women every said anything about being angry men constantly shut them down for “complaining”,

  1. I totally agree with what you are saying. I also like how the music video shows the women and the mens roles reversed as men were doing the cleaning and the women were not doing anything. Men should start doing that more often and giving men a break!!!!

  2. I think we all want the 'perfect man' but sadly there is no such thing and I think it's ridiculous that the media can depict what a perfect man is.
