This blog was created to showcase the discussions of the Bridgewater State University students enrolled in the First Year Seminar: Women and Popular Culture. The blog posts will reflect their analysis of readings on feminism, but also cultural theory and media studies that focus on the role women play in music, movies, television, and much more. Blog Post 6
As I was looking through songs for my twitter post, I watched "Wannabe" by Spice Girls and it inspired me. It inspired me because the ladies were telling the guys that if they like them and would like to be their lover they have to like who they are and the kind of people they walk with. I feel like this is really important because in most relationship the guys are the boss in the women's life. They try to tell the women the type of friends they have to walk with and when they allowed to do whatever they want with their friends. The guys take control over their women's lives and act as if they were the one who gave birth to them. Most women are scared to say it when their men are too controlling because they feel like they are going to dump them and then be single again. So in this music video, I felt it was a good idea for them to bring this situation out because most women cannot speak up for themselves so when other woman does it , it inspires them to be more powerful, not to be afraid to let their guys know when they are treating them unfairly.

I agree with this. This is a nice song for women because it does show that men don't always have to be in charge. I love to see women "take down" the men and not have to be the servants. Its one of my favorite songs.
ReplyDeleteI agree with this. Women often do feel that the man has more power over them in the relationship and they should not feel that way. No one can control you
