The Rise of Enlightened Sexism
This week we were assigned to read the Introduction of a book called The Rise of Enlightened Sexism by Susan Douglas. We learn that enlightened sexism is brought up because many insist that feminism has already been fulfilled. They state this because women have made a lot of progress because of feminism. They believe that since women already have accomplished the fact that they can get jobs like men that now it’s time for women to focus on getting men to want them and getting other women to hate them because one might look better than the other.
This reminds me of celebrities and the way, women especially, have all just done crazy things to gain the attention of others. We were discussing in class today about Kim Kardashian and what she did in order to “break the internet” was what she stated. This is one out of many clear examples of women and the way they fight to gain attention. Instead of working together and not falling so deep into the media’s trap, which I believe will be impossible today because of how deep so many people have fallen. People now use television show, movies, magazines, and social media in order to kind of like escape the real world they are living in. They judge all of those women that they see in on those things and then live there life trying to be like them, which I believe is crazy but it is real life.

  1. I totally agree with you when you say that women do crazy things just for attention. For example today in class how we talked about Kylie dancing on a stripper pole and posting in on instagram. No one should judge women for who they are but then again you are right when you say it is life.

  2. I agree with this. Women ARE finding new ways to "one up" each other. The discussion we had in class about the Kardashians today was a great example. Those (girls?) are always finding ways to make their bodies noticeable to the public. Which in my opinion shouldn't be the case at all.

  3. I agree with what you say that these women try so hard to gain attention from society specially if they are part of the media, also I think that maybe because of this young teenagers nowadays do the things they see people like Kim do in social media like now there are teens that post inappropriate pictures on instagram and all of this just for likes and seek attention.
